How to split a PDF

  1. Choose the PDF you want to split.
  2. Pick whether to extract a range of pages or separate every page.
  3. For a range, type the pages you want, such as 1-3, 7, 10-12.
  4. Press Split PDF to download the result.

Understanding page ranges

The range box accepts single page numbers and spans, separated by commas. 2 takes just page two. 4-9 takes everything from four to nine inclusive. 1, 5-7, 12 combines both.

Pages come out in the order they appear in the original document, and a page listed twice is only included once. Numbers outside the document are ignored rather than causing an error.

Extracting versus separating

Extracting produces one file containing your chosen pages. Separating produces one file per page, so a twenty page document becomes twenty downloads. Browsers often ask permission before downloading many files at once, so allow it when prompted.

Quality and content

Splitting copies pages without re-encoding them. Text remains selectable, images keep their resolution, and each new file keeps the original page dimensions. Bookmarks and interactive form fields are not carried across, since the output is a new document.

Frequently asked questions

How do I extract just one page from a PDF?

Choose Extract specific pages and type that single page number in the box, then press Split PDF. You will get a one page document containing only that page.

What does a page range like 1-3, 5 mean?

It means pages one, two, three and five. Hyphens select an inclusive span and commas separate individual entries. You can mix both in one expression.

Can I split a PDF into separate files for every page?

Yes. Choose Split into separate files and each page downloads as its own PDF. Your browser may ask permission before downloading several files at once.

Does splitting reduce quality?

No. Pages are copied as they are, so text stays selectable and images keep their original resolution.

Is my document uploaded anywhere?

No. The split happens entirely inside your browser and no copy of the file leaves your device.
